Our Story

Who We Are

Founded in 1975, the Becker Lions Club has served as the local representative and 'on-the-ground' application for Lions International. In doing so, we are driven to develop a volunteer base committed to serving our community, meeting humanitarian needs, and encouraging good citizenship and fellowship.

Mission

In practical terms, our mission is to:

  • Serve Our Local Community: This is the core focus, summed up by our motto, "We Serve."  We strive to identify and address the unique, immediate needs of the people in our town and area.

  • Meet Humanitarian Needs: We organize and conduct hands-on projects and fundraisers in the community, often focusing on the global causes:

    • Vision

      • Conducting free eye screenings, collecting used eyeglasses, and helping to pay for exams or surgeries for those in need.

    • Hunger:

      • Organizing food drives, supporting local food banks, and feeding the hungry.

    • Youth:

      • Sponsoring student groups, offering scholarships, and supporting local schools.

    • Other Needs:

      • This can include aiding seniors and the disabled, supporting local disaster relief, and environmental clean-up projects.

  • Encourage Good Citizenship and Fellowship: We provide a structured, non-political, and non-sectarian environment for service-minded individuals to work together, develop leadership skills, and build friendships.

In short, we are dedicated to improving the community one project at a time by providing voluntary services and using funds raised from the public to help those in need right where they live.
